Abstract 097: Un?stumped by Carotid Stump Syndrome: Use of External Carotid Stenting in Preventing Ischemic Stroke

Stroke: Vascular and Interventional Neurology

Stenosis of the external carotid artery in such patients can be a source of atheroembolism or hypoperfusion. We describe a case of external carotid stenting with carotid stump coil occlusion.MethodsWe present a case report. Repeat imaging at follow up did not show further embolic episodes, with improvement in the patient’s deficits.

Abstract TMP68: Proximal Balloon Occlusion With Forced Aspiration (POWER) Technique Should Be Effective in Preventing Distal Microembolization During Carotid Artery Stenting With the Filter Protection Device

Stroke Journal

Purpose:Since the balloon protection device became unavailable in Japan three years ago, the DWI-positive rate after carotid artery stenting (CAS) has increased. We have developed a Proximal balloon Occlusion With forcEd aspiRation (POWER) technique to prevent distal embolization in CAS with the filter protection device.

Stroke: Vascular and Interventional Neurology

She elected to undergo right MEV coil embolization. For management she underwent coil embolization of the right occipital vein, as this was the vessel the posterior auricular vein was draining into. Initially, he underwent stent‐assisted coiling of a high‐riding jugular bulb with no change in symptoms.
