An ECG that changed life to the Brugada Brothers, but also to somebody else.

HeartRhythm

I highly appreciate Pedro and Joseph Brugada for their beautiful tale of the origin of the syndrome (1) and especially for their fair admission that the Padova Cardiologists (led by the great yet forgotten genius Andrea Nava, who passed away a few years ago ) had published similar observations (2-4). As in the tale by Brugada of their discovery, we had good luck investigating a middle-aged cook who collapsed at home and was fortunate to be defibrillated.

Serial ECGs for chest pain: at what point would you activate the cath lab?

Dr. Smith's ECG Blog

Written by Jesse McLaren A healthy 75 year old developed 7/10 chest pain associated with diaphoresis and nausea, which began on exertion but persisted. Below is the first ECG recorded by paramedics after 2 hours of chest pain, interpreted by the machine as “possible inferior ischemia”. What do you think? There’s competing sinus bradycardia and junctional rhythm, with otherwise normal conduction, borderline right axis, normal R wave progression and voltages.

Potential biomarkers and immune characteristics for polycythemia vera-related atherosclerosis using bulk RNA and single-cell RNA datasets: a combined comprehensive bioinformatics and machine learning analysis

Frontiers in Cardiovascular Medicine

BackgroundPolycythemia vera (PV) is a myeloproliferative disease characterized by significantly higher hemoglobin levels and positivity for JAK2 mutation. Thrombosis is the main risk event of this disease. Atherosclerosis (AS) can markedly increase the risk of arterial thrombosis in patients with PV. The objectives of our study were to identify potential biomarkers for PV-related AS and to explore the molecular biological association between PV and AS.MethodsWe extracted microarray datasets from

If you understand the pericardial anatomy fully, you can call yourself real master of clinical anatomy. (Ref 3,4) We know, it is a complex protective cover over the heart , that has three layers with a unique relation with one another. The outer one is tough conical bag , and it had embryologically distinct origin. It develops from septum transversum and sits over the diaphragm tightly, with a strong bond to which it shares the same embryological origin.

Spatial analysis and characteristics of persistent late potentials after ablation of scar-related VT substrate– implications for late potential elimination as a procedural endpoint with high-resolution mapping.

HeartRhythm

Late potential elimination has been proposed as a surrogate endpoint for scar-related VT ablation procedures. The characteristics, distribution, and predictors of persistent LPs (pLP) after ablation have not been studied.
