Mortality trends, disparities, and social vulnerability in cardiac arrest mortality in the young: A cross?sectional analysis

Journal of Cardiovascular Electrophysiology

Graphical abstract depicting cardiac arrest mortality disparities in the young, temporal trends, and its correlation with the social vulnerability index. Abstract Background Cardiac arrest (CA) is a leading cause of death in the United States (US). Social determinants of health may impact CA outcomes. We aimed to assess mortality trends, disparities, and the influence of the social vulnerability index (SVI) on CA outcomes in the young.

Clinical characteristics and prognosis of patients with isolated cardiac sarcoidosis: Insights from the ILLUMINATE?CS study

European Journal of Heart Failure

Among 475 patients with cardiac sarcoidosis, 119 (25.1%) were isolated cardiac sarcoidosis (iCS) based on the 2016 Japanese Circulation Society criteria. Patients with iCS were more likely to have a history of atrial fibrillation (AF) or hospitalization for heart failure (HF), or lower left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) than those with systemic cardiac sarcoidosis.

Evolution of Value in American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association Clinical Practice Guidelines

Circulation: Cardiovascular Quality & Outcomes

Circulation: Cardiovascular Quality and Outcomes, Volume 16, Issue 11 , Page e010086, November 1, 2023. BACKGROUND:In January 2014, the American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association released a policy statement arguing for the inclusion of cost-effectiveness analysis (CEA) and value assessments in clinical practice guidelines. It is unclear whether subsequent guidelines changed how they incorporated such concepts.METHODS:We analyzed guidelines of cardiovascular disease subconditions w

No Effect of Continued Antiarrhythmic Drug Treatment on Top of Optimized Pulmonary Vein Isolation in Patients With Persistent Atrial Fibrillation: Results From the POWDER-AF2 Trial

Circulation: Arrhythmia and Electrophysiology

Circulation: Arrhythmia and Electrophysiology, Volume 16, Issue 11 , Page e012043, November 1, 2023. BACKGROUND:In patients with persistent atrial fibrillation (PersAF), catheter ablation aiming for pulmonary vein isolation (PVI) is associated with moderate clinical effectiveness. We investigated the benefit of continuing previously ineffective class 1C or 3 antiarrhythmic drug therapy (ADT) in the setting of a standardized PVI-only ablation strategy.METHODS:In this multicenter, randomized contr

Genetic Association between ICAM-1 Gene Variants and Susceptibility to Ischemic Cardiomyopathy

Journal of Cardiovascular Pharmacology

Abstract: The current work was aimed at exploring the association between single nucleotide polymorphisms(SNPs) in the ICAM-1 gene, along with the identification of additional haplotypes and their potential role in susceptibility to ischemic cardiomyopathy(ICM). The control group underwent a Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium test. The associations of genotypes and alleles with susceptibility to ICM were then analyzed using logistic regression analysis.

Efficacy and Safety of a polypill to reduce cardiovascular events: A review of clinical trials.

Journal of Cardiovascular Pharmacology

Abstract: Cardiovascular disease continues to be the leading cause of mortality globally. Modifiable risk factors, such as hypertension and dyslipidemia can be managed through lifestyle and pharmacotherapy treatments to reduce the risk of primary and secondary major cardiovascular events in patients with elevated risk. Despite effective and available medications to manage and mitigate cardiovascular risk factors, control rates of hypertension and dyslipidemia are suboptimal and greater efforts a
