Medtronic’s PulseSelect Becomes First FDA-Approved PFA System

CardiacWire

The AFib pulsed field ablation treatment era officially began in the US last week, following the FDA approval of Medtronic’s PulseSelect Pulsed Field Ablation System for the treatment of both paroxysmal and persistent atrial fibrillation. PFA systems use electroporation (short electrical pulses) to achieve pulmonary vein isolation. PFA is seen as safer and faster than current thermal ablation techniques, reducing damage to surrounding tissues and improving procedural efficiency.

Ultrasound characteristics of abdominal vascular compression syndromes

Frontiers in Cardiovascular Medicine

Abdominal vascular compression syndrome (AVCS) is caused by the compression of abdominal blood vessels by adjacent structures or the compression of abdominal organs by neighboring blood vessels. Such compressions can result in a variety of clinical symptoms. They are not commonly seen in ultrasound practices, and their presence may have been underrecognized and underdiagnosed.

Detection of heart rate using smartphone gyroscope data: a scoping review

Frontiers in Cardiovascular Medicine

Heart rate (HR) is closely related to heart rhythm patterns, and its irregularity can imply serious health problems. Therefore, HR is used in the diagnosis of many health conditions. Traditionally, HR has been measured through an electrocardiograph (ECG), which is subject to several practical limitations when applied in everyday settings. In recent years, the emergence of smartphones and microelectromechanical systems has allowed innovative solutions for conveniently measuring HR, such as smartp

Carotid plaque score and ischemic stroke risk stratification through a combination of B-mode and contrast-enhanced ultrasound in patients with low and intermediate carotid stenosis

Frontiers in Cardiovascular Medicine

Objective The occurrence of ischemic stroke (IS) is closely related to the characteristics of carotid plaque (CP). Due to the effect of stroke risk stratification based on B-mode ultrasound (US) and contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) that has not been studied in patients with low and intermediate carotid stenosis, we construct and validate a CP score and ischemic stroke risk stratification (ISRS) using a combination of B-mode and CEUS, in order to provide new convenient strategies to stratify t

Metabolic status differentiates Trp53inp2 function in pressure-overload induced heart failure

Frontiers in Cardiovascular Medicine

Cardiometabolic disorders encompass a broad range of cardiovascular complications associated with metabolic dysfunction. These conditions have an increasing share in the health burden worldwide due to worsening endemic of hypertension, obesity, and diabetes. Previous studies have identified Tumor Protein p53-inducible Nuclear Protein 2 (Trp53inp2) as a molecular link between hyperglycemia and cardiac hypertrophy.

Echocardiographic parameters indicating left atrial reverse remodeling after catheter ablation for atrial fibrillation

Frontiers in Cardiovascular Medicine

Background The echocardiographic parameters total atrial conduction time (PA-TDI duration), left atrial (LA) volume index (LAVI), and LA strain reflect adverse atrial remodeling and predict atrial fibrillation (AF). Objectives The aim of this study was to investigate echocardiographic parameters indicating reverse LA remodeling and potential associations with AF recurrence after pulmonary vein isolation (PVI).
