The biopsy was consistent with cardiac sarcoidosis. She was given CRT-D (Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy-Defibrillator). SCD (sudden cardiac death) from sarcoid heart disease is thought to be caused by either from high-grade AV block or VT. Medical treatment with oral steroids and methotrexate was started.

Twenty-one percent (18 of 88) had a family history of sudden cardiac death and 26.4% (14 of 53) carried a pathogenic SCN5A mutation.
