Abstract 4145857: The effect of homebase exercise training on single ventricle heart (SVH) function, exercise performance, body composition and quality of Life in children and adolescents living with a Fontan circulation

Circulation

Circulation, Volume 150, Issue Suppl_1 , Page A4145857-A4145857, November 12, 2024. Objectives:Fontan patients have impaired exercise capacity. Exercise training has been shown to improve exercise performance. No serious adverse events reported. The exercise duration improved from 7.56±2.6 watts, p<0.001.

O2 pulse slope correlates with stroke volume during exercise in patients with a Fontan circulation

Open Heart

It has been shown to be reduced in patients with a Fontan circulation. We propose that the slope of the O 2 pulse curve may be more reflective of SV during exercise. Conclusion The slope of the O 2 pulse curve to peak exercise may be more reflective of peak SV in the Fontan population than a single peak O 2 pulse value.

Pulmonary vasodilators and exercise in Fontan circulation: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Heart BMJ

Objective In Fontan circulation, pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH)-targeted therapies could improve the patients’ exercise capacity. This study aimed to investigate the effects of PAH agents on different exercise parameters in stable Fontan patients by synthesising evidence of randomised controlled trials (RCTs).

Abstract 4146967: The Effects of Physical Activity Levels on Body Composition, Exercise Performance, Single Ventricle Function and Self-Perceived Quality of Life in Children and Adolescents with a Fontan Circulation.

Circulation

Circulation, Volume 150, Issue Suppl_1 , Page A4146967-A4146967, November 12, 2024. This study aims to establish the effect of an active lifestyle in paediatric Fontan patients, determine its relationship with body composition, exercise capacity, ventricle function and quality of life.Methods:30 Fontan patients were recruited.

Physiology Friday #222: High-intensity Exercise Reduces Senescent “Pro-aging” Cells

Physiologically Speaking

Inflammation is also intricately tied to exercise. During exercise, our body mounts an acute inflammatory response, releasing all sorts of cytokines, macrophages, and other molecules throughout the circulation. The thing with exercise is that it also exerts an anti-inflammatory effect in the proceeding hours to days.

Circulation

Circulation, Volume 150, Issue Suppl_1 , Page A4143092-A4143092, November 12, 2024. Background:Very high level, lifelong aerobic exercise results in lower ventricular stiffness and left ventricular wall stress (LVWS) LVWS is an important predictor of future heart failure risk.
