Studies, including the MARC study, show that athletes have a higher proportion of calcified (stable) plaques and fewer mixed or non-calcified plaques, which are more prone to rupture and cause heart attacks. The study included 289 male athletes with a mean age of 60 years. That’s pure speculation, however.
