ATRIAL FLUTTER DEGENERATES INTO ATRIAL FIBRILLATION

ECG Guru

Atrial flutter and atrial fibrillation are 2 different cardiac arrhythmias, but occur frequently side by side in the same patient. Here is an example of how atrial flutter degenerataes into atrial fibrillation.

Traumatic Brain Injury is Associated with the Subsequent Risk of Atrial Fibrillation or Atrial Flutter

HeartRhythm

Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is associated with a variety of adverse long-term outcomes and increases sympathetic nervous system activation which could increase the risk of arrhythmias including atrial fibrillation or atrial flutter (AF/AFL).

Association of typical atrial flutter and cavotricuspid isthmus ablation on clinical recurrence after cryoballoon ablation for atrial fibrillation

Frontiers in Cardiovascular Medicine

Typical atrial flutter commonly occurs in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF). Limited information exists regarding the effects of concurrent atrial flutter on the long-term outcomes of rhythm control. Patients who were screened for typical atrial flutter were included in the analysis ( n  = 1,907).

ATRIAL FIBRILLATION

ECG Guru

In the first section of the ECG we see coarse fibrillation waves and QRS complexes with very different RR intervals, which is why this is atrial fibrillation. I don't know the history.

Atypical Atrial Flutter

ECG Guru

Why is this left atrial atypical atrial flutter ( ECG 1 )? Atrial fibrillation can be excluded because nice flutter waves (all look the same) can be clearly identified. The flutter waves are positive in V1 ( ECG 2 ). The flutter waves are positive in V1 ( ECG 2 ).

PO-01-055 ASSESSING POTENTIAL BENEFIT OF STROKE PROPHYLAXIS THERAPY IN ATRIAL FIBRILLATION AND ATRIAL FLUTTER USING A NOVEL COMPETING RISK SCORING TOOL

HeartRhythm

The competing risk of non-stroke mortality may limit the potential benefit of stroke prophylaxis therapy in patients with atrial fibrillation and/or atrial flutter (AF).

PO-03-070 RISK OF THROMBOEMBOLISM AFTER COVID-19 VACCINATION IN PATIENTS WITH ATRIAL FIBRILLATION/ATRIAL FLUTTER: A SELF-CONTROLLED CASE-SERIES STUDY

HeartRhythm

Concerns about the safety of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) vaccines in patients with atrial fibrillation/atrial flutter (AF/AFL) have arisen due to reports of an association between thromboembolic events and COVID-19 vaccination.
