PFA is designed to address AFib, the most common arrhythmia in the US, with a growing patient population. Antiarrhythmic drugs are typically a poor solution for AFib, as their side effects can be debilitating.

Conditions such as AFib are often said to be associated with stroke as a consequence of cardioembolism. Previously it was thought that this was only beneficial in 1 6 hour window, some studies are suggesting that it could be beneficial even if performed beyond 6 hours (up to 16 hours) The next step is to study the heart in detail.
