Image courtesy: Getty Images christine.book Sat, 05/18/2024 - 14:26 May 18, 2024 — The Heart Rhythm Society ( HRS ) has announced the findings of three new studies demonstrating the safety and efficacy of pulsed field ablation (PFA), a nonthermal ablation treatment for patients with atrial fibrillation ( AFib ).
The first procedures were performed by Dr. David Newton , Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiologist at Memorial Health University Physicians Heart Care and Dr. Andrea Natale , Executive Medical Director at T exas Cardiac Arrhythmia Institute, St. David’s Medical Center.

As a result, in order to differentiate MAT from the much more commonly encountered irregularly irregular rhythm ( which is AFib ) — we need to be certain we are seeing multiple different P wave morphologies that are constantly changing. Clinically , the importance of recognizing MAT — is that treatment is different than the treatment of AFib.
By 1909 ECGs were being used to diagnose cases of arrhythmia; by 1910 to diagnose indicators of a heart attack. The pipeline of algorithms likely to clear regulatory hurdles and enter the cardiac market over the next 12-18 months include those for Pulmonary Hypertension, Cardiac Amyloidosis, Diastolic dysfunction, and Hyperkalaemia.

How can you avoid overlooking this arrhythmia? The reasons for overlooking this arrhythmia are simple: True MAT is not a common rhythm.

Further ultrasound showed no B-lines (no pulmonary edema). WPW Cardiac arrhythmias ( especially AFib ). The heart rate is too fast for this poor filling. Preload must be increased and the heart rate slowed in order to allow more LV filling. These patients are often on beta blockers to prevent such a scenario.
